Art Van Furniture

Project Challenge

The long-time vacant former Kmart building and site was being redeveloped at the same time that Art Van Furniture was renovating its portion of the building. Significant coordination efforts were required for construction access and scheduling. With the combined efforts of the design and construction team, the space was turned over in time for Art Van Furniture’s grand opening.

Art Van Furniture was a highly reputable furniture company based here in Michigan, which expanded into surrounding Midwest markets. Its expansion into these surrounding markets is where they introduced their new image and branding, much of which is unknown to the native Michigan consumer. However, with further expansion in the Michigan market, they were able to introduce much of the same imaging and branding into this new store in Rochester Hills, in a long-time vacant Kmart building. Although the Landlord’s image for the multi-tenant building was it’s own vision, Art Van Furniture was able to incorporate much of the same look as it’s flagship stores do with red composite metal panels, natural stone, and wood rain screen materials.

This material color palette sets it apart from other furniture stores. The upscale material palette extends past the front door, into the Main Showroom, the brand’s PureSleep bedding department, Guest Services and Restrooms. The white ceramic tile pathways throughout the store lead to the ultimate destination – Guest Services. Here at Guest Services, customers will find a dynamic wall display consisting of a series of small, round, shimmering disks located behind the custom millwork desk where customers complete their transaction.
